Evelyn and Jonathan’s Daughters of the American Revolution wedding was full of beauty and historical charm.
As their wedding coordinator, I kept a close eye on the weather leading up to their wedding day, and, unfortunately, there was a very high likelihood of rain. I made sure to share Plan B with the vendor team so that everyone would be ready to move into the O’Byrne Gallery if needed. Thankfully, the skies cleared just in time for us to stick to the original plan and set up their ceremony outdoors on the Portico, allowing for a clear view of the Washington Monument!
First Look & Vows
Before the ceremony, Evelyn and Jonathan took the time to have a first look and share their vows privately. This is a great way to have an intimate moment together before all the festivities begin.
Despite the clear skies, it was a chilly spring day. Thankfully, Evelyn was ready with a comfy and fashionable wrap to keep her warm for photos.
Ceremony on the Portico
Their ceremony included two Cuban wedding traditions, the lazzo and the mantilla. They each chose loved ones to join them at the front to be a part of it.
Cocktail Hour in the Library
Even though they were able to have their ceremony outside, we knew that it was going to be too cold to keep guests outside for cocktail hour, as originally planned. Thankfully, when you have a Daughters of the American Revolution wedding, you can easily pivot indoors. We chose to move cocktail hour into the Library, which offered lots of historical charm!
For cocktail hour, Evelyn & Jonathan chose to display their vow books for those who wanted to read them. And instead of a traditional guest book, they ordered a deck of custom playing cards and invited guests to sign a card in the deck.
First Dance on the Portico
Before sitting down for dinner, we invited guests out onto the Portico to witness Evelyn & Jonathan’s first dance under the rotunda. The dance was extra special because Jonathan’s “Bets Chick” to sing for it.
Dinner in the O’Byrne Gallery
Guests were then invited inside for dinner. For a Daughters of the American Revolution wedding, the O’Byrne Gallery is the perfect location for a wedding reception. The room is intimate without feeling too cramped, thanks to the large windowed doors.
Evelyn and Jonathan chose to honor those who had passed with photos on a table for guests to see.
Once everyone had been served, it was time for toasts and cake cutting!
Dancing in the Pennsylvania Foyer
With dinner done and folks ready to party, we invited everyone into Daughters of the American Revolution’s Pennsylvania Foyer. Before kicking off the dance floor, Evelyn and Jonathan each had a tender moment dancing with loved ones.
Then the bar was open and the dance floor quickly filled with excitement! Guests were also able to mingle and chat in the library, which is where dessert was served. Evelyn and Jonathan opted for the always popular Pittisburgh cookie table, served alongside coffee.
